In the last 30 days, the Des Moines Multiple Listing Service (MLS) has put 1907 houses under contract as of the writing of this post. The average price of those properties was $347,462. They sold, on average, in 66 days.
This tells me a few things. One is the average is higher than the market average for the year. (Just under $300,000.) So, people with purchasing power are the ones making the purchases. Also, the days on market is a bit higher than the average for the year. (So far, year to date, we are at 54 days on market on average.) If you can believe it, the rainiest month on record in the last 150 years (Sept 2026) slowed down the market. That also means there is pent up demand for people. I can tell you the buyers I am working with are out looking right now for the right home to buy.
If you are looking to buy, you have a good amount of inventory right now to look at. I can get you out to a more nuanced choice of houses than I could a year ago.
